Online Lecture Series

Julia Morgan: Her Life in Three Acts

Victoria Kastner will present a three-part lecture on Julia Morgan, created exclusively for the Foundation at Hearst Castle. She will share historic images and newly discovered information that she did not have room to include in her new book, Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect

Part Two: A California Architect

Victoria will reveal some of the challenges Julia faced on her return to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she began her architectural career in 1902. She’ll examine many of her notable projects, including Julia’s early commissions from Phoebe Apperson Hearst and William Randolph Hearst. She’ll also describe Julia’s business practices, quoting the reminiscences of Julia’s own employees. And she’ll share information about some of the Morgan family’s tragic losses, which began in 1913 and continued through the 1920s.
