Online Lecture Series
Julia Morgan: Her Life in Three Acts
Victoria Kastner will present a three-part lecture on Julia Morgan, created exclusively for the Foundation at Hearst Castle. She will share historic images and newly discovered information that she did not have room to include in her new book, Julia Morgan: An Intimate Biography of the Trailblazing Architect.
Part Three: San Simeon and Beyond
Victoria will provide a detailed look at San Simeon, as well as examine several other major commissions that Julia undertook at the same time. She’ll analyze Julia’s relationship with W. R. Hearst, quoting extensively from their voluminous correspondence. She’ll reveal the health problems Julia began to experience in her fifties, and their worsening consequences. She’ll discuss Julia’s final years, and chart the changes in how critics have responded to her architecture over the past several decades.
